Ardmore defeats Chicks to stay unbeaten in district

ARDMORE —

Despite a second-half defensive effort that limited Ardmore's chances, Chickasha was beaten 24-3 on the road in a tough night for the Fightin' Chicks attack.

The win takes Ardmore to 4-0 in district and 6-1 overall, while Chickasha slips to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in district. Ardmore's Kydric Knox stole the show with 96 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Fightin Chicks quarterback Cade Morris helped the visitors to a bright-looking start. After connecting on a pass to Cole Young, Morris broke off on a run for the first of his 58 rushing yards on the night. Later on in the drive, Ardmore senior Rontrey Burkhalter intercepted a pass and put the Tigers on their own 16 yard line.

Junior Armondo Garcia put together a 14-yard run to set up Knox for his first touchdown of the night to put Ardmore up 7-0.

On Chikcasha’s next possession Morris once against pulled a big gain on the ground. While the Fightin' Chicks recovered their own fumble, the near turnover stalled the drive and the Tiger’s defense forced a punt

Ardmore continued to run the ball on their next drive. Knox  and fellow sophomore Casen Russell combined to move them down the field, and the drive ended with another touchdown run by Knox.

Turnovers for Chickasha proved costly. Morris threw his second interception to end the next drive, and it was caught by sophomore Kevion McGee. The Tiger’s drove to the nine yard line, but were held to a field goal. That made the score 17-0 at halftime.

The entire second half was a defensive battle. The Tiger’s received the ball at the beginning of the third quarter. Ardmore ran with the ball and picked up two first downs, but the Chickahsa defense, led by Oron Bowman's nine tackles,  then stopped the Tigers on fourth down to get the ball back.
