Seven to state for wrestling

DUNCAN, Okla. — The Chickasha High School wrestling team will be sending seven wrestlers to the state tournament this year, after the team placed third at the regional tournament at Duncan High School on Saturday night.

Lamar Neff (106), Dakota Resendez (113), David Eakers (132), Triston Hill (145), Coy Richardson (160), Josh Latham (182), Jacoby Brown (Heavyweight) will all be competing this Friday and Saturday at State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.

"We got seven in, and coming in I said five would be good," head coach Chad Randle said. "We always want to get a couple more in, but every team has its own story."

Neff and Resendez made the tournament as freshmen, and Randle said he will talk to them about not settling for the accomplishment.

"They've got to take the pressure off themselves and go out there and wrestle," Randle said. "Being freshman, a lot of them settle, and they've got to be greedy. We're going to talk a lot about 'Why not?'"

Brown and Latham won regional championships, although Brown struggled some in his match against Deshawn Craft of Del City.

Brown is undersized as a heavyweight. Last season he won the state championship at 220 pounds, now he is wrestling opponents that may weigh as much as 285 pounds.

Randle said Brown has lost weight by going so hard during practice, and is down to 245.

"Jacoby sees these heavyweights are just going to stall, stall, stall on him, and its scary at heavyweight because he's the smallest one out there," Randle said. "I guess I've worked him too hard because he's down to 245 now. He's up to the challenge though."

Lamar Neff placed fourth; Dakota Resendez placed as runner-up. David Eakers was a runner-up.

Triston Hill placed fourth; Coy Richardson placed fourth.

The state tournament is scheduled for all day Friday and Saturday at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.
