Chicks runners-up to Tuttle at Chickasha tourney

— The Tuttle High School wrestling team, coached by Chickasha alum Matt Surber, won the Chickasha Invitational tournament this weekend at the CHS Activity Center.

The Fightin' Chicks finished second in the tournament, scoring 169 team points to Tuttle's 254.

Of the top six teams, five of them are coached by former Fightin' Chicks: Surber (Tuttle), Greg George (Southmoore), Mark Peck (Westmoore) and Erik Ford (Piedmont).

Tuttle had four first-place finishers in the tournament.

Gunner Laffoon (132) beat Comanche's Jon Townsend 3-2 in the finals.

Dakota Head (145) beat Bryan Dutton of Guthrie in the championship match in a 4-2 decision.

Zach Beard (170) beat Chickasha's Riley Williams in a 10-4 decision to win the title.

Riley Fielder pinned Josh Latham 5:49 into the 182 finals.

Sam Richardson and Jacoby Brown were Chickasha's two champions, with Brown beating Deer Creek's Tyler Follis and Richardson getting an injury win over Putnam City North's Evan Hudson.

David Eakers was the runner-up at 132 pounds, losing to Berryhill's Jonce Blaylock.

Blanchard's 160-pounder Braden Stringer won his weight class with an 8-2 decision over Chad Draper of Deer Creek.
