The Drovers played a hard first half but couldn’t overcome the powerful second half by Wayland Baptist and fell 74-59 on Thursday night.
USAO (9-5, 0-5) led 33-28 at halftime, but the Flying Queens shot nearly 50 percent from the field in the second half and took the lead in the final 10 minutes of the game.
Four Drovers delivered points in the double digits in Thursday’s battle. Senior Rocio Medrano led the team with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Junior guard Ndeye Ngom had 11 points, four assists and three steals. Krista Ford, a senior from Lubbock, and Rashelle Carr, a junior from Duncan, each had 10 points.
Tashina Ototivo led the team in rebounds with four offensive and five defensive. She also had six points.
The Drovers shot 35.5 percent from the field on Thursday night.
They move on to play No. 2 Lubbock Christian at home at 1 p.m. Saturday night. It’s Teacher Appreciation Day and local and area teachers will get into the game for free. USAO’s Biology and Associated Science and Women in Science clubs will host the game.
