GRADY COUNTY —

With Amber-Pocasset girls falling in the regional round on Friday, only Rush Springs girls, Chickasha girls and Tuttle boys remain in the hunt for a state tournament bid.

The trio starts the area round this week. In Class 4A, No. 9 Tuttle is one win away from state and will try to secure that against Elk City in Chickasha this Friday at 8 p.m. The losing team is left with one more chance to reach state via a consolation game played on Saturday.

Chickasha girls, ranked tenth in Class 5A, travel to Edmond North this Thursday where they'll face No. 14 Ardmore at 6:30 p.m. They are in a must-win situation in the area round, and victory would send them through to the area consolation final where they'll face either No. 1 Shawnee or No. 8 El Reno on Saturday.

Rush Springs girls, ranked seventeenth, head to Byng for Class 2A Area III after a 55-43 loss to Latta in the regional final on Saturday. Calera present their first challenge on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Redskins are three wins away from state and they will face either Wright City or Healdton in the consolation semifinal on Friday at 1:30 p.m. if they are victorious.

The Am-Po were unable to defeat Colbert on Friday, falling just short at 41-38. The Lady Panthers quickly fell behind by 12 in the first half. Haley Savage was the only player who was able to score for the panthers in the opening quarter.

Colbert's rebounding was dominant and efficient. This helped Colbert take a 16 point lead into the third quarter.

The second half is when the Panthers began to score and cut into the lead. Darcie Winn scored 9 of her 15 points in the final quarter and also hit all of her free throw attempts in the game. Ashtin Green and Suzanne Parker hit a pair of three point shots in the fourth quarter to help put the Panthers in a position to win.

In the end the 18 third quarter points weren’t enough to overcome the big deficit that Colbert had built up.
