Chicks play Del City before Spring Break

— The Chickasha High School baseball team got a convincing win over Del City last Friday at Elliott Field, but head coach Brad Gore doesn't expect the road rematch at 5 p..m. tonight to be as easy.

"We played them last Friday, and they threw their best kid, a kid that gave us a lot of trouble last year, and he just wasn't quite right the other day," Gore said. "So I'm sure he'll go again on Friday."

Chickasha won the game 10-2 last week, and is currently 6-0 (3-0 in district). It's a good start, but Gore and the team know that the toughest games are still yet to come.

"I think our older guys know we've got Carl Albert and those guys waiting in the wings, and we've got some tough games over Spring Break where we'll see where we're at," Gore said.

The Fightin' Chicks will play four games over Spring Break.

The first three are in Shreveport, La., starting Wednesday against Loyola Academy.

Thursday, Chickasha will play Benton High School, and Friday the team will play Cavalry Academy.

Saturday, Chickasha will go to Henderson, Texas to play Henderson High School.

The Monday and Tuesday after Spring Break, Chickasha has a home-and-home series with No. 1 Carl Albert.

"I like the way the guys are playing," Gore said. "They're into the game. You're going to have ups and downs with offense, the main thing is to stay stable with defense and pitching."

It is still early in the season, and Chickasha has plenty of improvements to make, said Gore.

"We need to be able to get the ball out of the air," Gore said. "We've been hitting a lot of fly balls, and giving the other teams a lot of chances to play under us instead of hitting on the ground and using our speed. [Monday night] we only hit two ground balls the whole game other than the base hits we got. We need to get the ball out of the air."
