The Chickasha High School football team concluded the spring season Thursday evening with the Purple and White scrimmage, giving fans of the team an opportunity to get a preview of what’s in store for next season.
The Fightin’ Chicks are working on installing a triple-option offense, which the coaches have said will take some time due to the complexity.
That, combined with the intensity of the defenses, led to a defense-dominated scrimmage while the quarterbacks continue to work toward getting comfortable in the new offense.
“We’re working on a new option scheme, and we ran that a whole bunch,” head coach Tom Cobble said. “We did some good out of it. Obviously, we’ve got a lot to learn, but we did good.”
Cobble did praise the defense for how it played in the scrimmage, as well.
“Defensively, they got to the ball a lot,” Cobble said. “I think we’d have a big gain a couple of times and then they would close. There were some big hits, and they made some big plays in the secondary.”
Next week the Chicks will begin summer camps, starting with the quarterbacks and receivers camp Monday and Tuesday. Line camp will be Tuesday, and the team will go to the Yukon High School team camp on Wednesday and Thursday.
