CHICKASHA — The Chickasha High School freshmen girls basketball team won its first game of the season Thursday night at home against Piedmont.
The Lady Chicks won a close game that came down to some clutch free throw shooting, 38-32, and Chickasha is now 1-0 this season.
Taylor Sylvester was the Lady Chicks' leading scorer with 17 points. Kelsi Gore scored 10 points, Hanna Fergason scored four, Taylor Lessig scored three points, and Alei Gann and Amanda Bradford had two points each.
Chickasha trailed by six points at halftime, but Gore made a 3-pointer right before the end of the third quarter to pull within one point. The Lady Chicks took the lead at the very beginning of the fourth quarter, 27-26.
Chickasha was unable to pull away very much from Piedmont, due in part to some missed free throws, but disruptive defense allowed them to stay in the lead.
In the last minute of the game, however, Gore and Sylvester made two free throws each to seal the victory.
The Chickasha High School freshmen boys basketball team lost 67-43 to Piedmont.
Colten Christian had 21 points, and Brandon Shumway scored 10 points.
