CHICKASHA — The Chickasha girls sank to a third straight loss against Deer Creek on Tuesday, losing 46-34 after a devastating opening frame.
Half of Chickasha’s points came from Dominique Golightly, as she finished the night with 17. It was a game-high, but the Lady Chicks couldn’t prevent Lady Antlers’ point guard Shae Scheffler from punshing them when she did shoot. The pint-sized Scheffler finished with 14 points for Deer Creek.
The start from Chickasha was not a great one. Nothing fell for the Lady Chicks in the first quarter. They went 1-for-9 from the floor, and Dominique Golightly scored their only bucket about halfway through the frame. It was exactly the opposite for Deer Creek. Jones was on song early, sinking a jumper and reaching the foul line for four points. But Shae Scheffler was the main contributor, driving for a layup before sinking a long three. That would become a bit of a theme for her.
It looked so much like a slow motion replay from the Lady Chicks. Shots weren’t falling, passes were quickly intercepted, and shooters were left open on defense. They needed a spark, and Golightly tried to provide that. First her drive to the low right-block earned her a bucket and the made foul shot. She then shed her defender, Dakota Vann, with a spin move into a fade-away jumper. That put Chickasha down just 10 in the second quarter, compared to a 12 point deficit at the end of the first. It also helped Chickasha to a quick 7-0 run.
Vann was doing similar work to keep Deer Creek well ahead at the other end. Before the quarter was over, Taylor Sylvester got in on the action for the Lady Chicks, sinking two put-back layups. The 10 point deficit remained at halftime, with Deer Creek up 26-16.
