Sophomore Dale Courtney came in first in 5:01.56 in the boys' 400 meter freestyle, five seconds better than his seed time. Later the girls' 200 meeter freestyle relay team placed second in an improved time of 2:20.8. The boys won their event in 1:56.49, a one second improvement.
"I think it's their time," Campo said. "They're typical kids. I yell at them in practice all the time, and they come out here and give me a reason to smile. I guess they're determined."
Chickasha has one more meet left on Jan. 23 before taking part in conference on Jan. 27 in Harrah. They then have another meet sandwiched between that and regionals in early February.
