JV loses three at Chickasha tournament

CHICKASHA —

Chickasha's junior varsity baseball team showed improvement throughout the tournament they hosted over the weekend, assistant coach Blake Taylor said, despite suffering three losses.

After a Thursday evening loss to Edmond North, their Friday game ended with Yukon winning 4-1, but Coach Blake Taylor, a former Chickasha and USAO baseball player, sees it as an improvement from last week when Chickasha played Yukon at their field.

Last week, the game ended in a 14-2 run rule defeat.

“These guys aren’t quite used to competing at this level yet," Taylor said. "They’ll figure out how to come out and compete with every team we play."

The game was tied 1-1 until the top of the seventh, when the Millers took the lead they never gave up.

Saturday morning, the Fightin' Chicks played their final game of the tournament, falling 11-7 to Southmoore.

"That was our best game hitting the ball," Taylor said. "We were able to string some together."

Taylor said he is confident the junior varsity squad will improve and that they displayed their ability to compete with the bigger schools like Yukon.

“These guys will get used to playing all the double-headers and sometimes playing four and five games a week,” Taylor said.

The junior varsity team will get another chance to get used to a heavy game schedule when they play in a Piedmont tournament this weekend.
