Cobble submits resignation from Chickasha football

CHICKASHA —

Head coach Tom Cobble has submitted his resignation from Chickasha.

Cobble, who finishes his second stint with the after three years, told The Express-Star on Friday that he would be leaving the program. The veteran hall of famer said the reason is purely personal as he'd like a chance to spend more time with family.

"It's just family stuff," he said. "Nothing bad happened. I've got grandkids I want to see more and there are opportunities outside of education I'd like to look at."

Athletic Director Yohance Brown said he does not want to comment until the resignation process is complete and the board has had time to take the necessary action.

This comes after Cobble's son and Chickasha offensive coordinator, JT Cobble, left the program to become the head coach at Stilwell High School in April.

Cobble has just overseen the Fightin' Chicks' first entry into the postseason since 2006, clinched with a hard-fought win over Duncan on the final day of the regular season.

He said the decision has been weighing on him for the past six months.

Cobble grew up in Minco before taking head coaching jobs there, in El Reno, Enid and Fairview. The 2013 season with Chickasha was Cobble's 40th as a head coach and 44th overall.

"I fell good about Jerry Don [Bray] and these coaches taking this on from here," Cobble said.

More on this story as it develops.
