Tuttle takes state with comeback win

OKLAHOMA CITY — Tuttle capped a season to remember on Saturday afternoon, coming back to win the Class 4A State title 4-3 over Dewey.

The Tigers (33-7) spent the vast majority of 2014 sitting atop the Class 4A rankings, and that was justified in their title win at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Dewey opened with a bang, going up 3-0 on Tuttle pitcher Connor Fryrear to sink Tiger hopes.

They immediately answered back, Connor Litterell helping to cancel out the early runs with a two-RBI single in the bottom half of the first. It was the foothold Tuttle needed.

An RBI single from Tyler McIntosh tied things up before he came across home plate on an error to give Tuttle the slender lead.

With two batters on in the top of the fourth, Litterell was then called onto the mound, despite having pitched a full game in the Thursday quarterfinal win over Cushing. He shut the Bulldoggers down, twice getting out of a jam before getting the final strikeout of the game and sealing the win.
