Turner hired as CHS cheer coach

CHICKASHA — The Chickasha Public School Board of Education hired current Chickasha Middle School teacher and former CHS cheer assistant Lisa Turner as head cheer coach for Chickasha High School.

Turner will replace previous head coach Tammie Williams, who retired this year from the position.

Turner began coaching cheer in 1995, when she was the the middle school cheer coach at Bridge Creek until 1998, when she took over as high school coach. Bridge Creek won a state championship that year.

The Bobcats' cheer squad placed as state runner-up three times and was third once while Turner was at Bridge Creek.

Turner took over as coach of the Guymon High School cheer squad in 2005. Guymon had gone the previous seven years without competing in cheer regionals or state.

In her four years at Guymon, Turner coached the team to the state competition three times, finishing in the top 10 in 2008.

Turner was named All-State cheer coach in 2008 for the west team, and regional coach of the year for Region 1.

She has been a cheer assistant with Chickasha since 2009.
