Verden girls, Alex boys, girls advance to regionals

— The Verden High School girls basketball team split its two district games at home and advanced to the regional tournament this weekend.

The Lady Tigers beat Southwest Covenant 30-20 in the first game Friday night, but lost to Cyril on Saturday, 65-41.

The Verden girls will play the runner-up from district 2, which included Sterling, Waurika and Ryan, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Sterling for their first regional game.

Because they are in the consolation bracket, the Lady Tigers now face single-elimination.

The Verden boys were eliminated Friday night at home, losing to Southwest Covenant in the first round of the district playoffs.

The Tigers lost 44-37, and end their season with a 16-9 record.

The Alex High School boys basketball team also advanced to the regional playoffs, beating Maysville in the first round of districts 58-16.

The Lady Longhorns beat Maysville 59-13 on Friday, but lost to Fort Cobb-Broxton 58-36 on Saturday. The Alex girls will play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Roff against the district 7 runner-up in regionals.
