SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The season began with a bang as the men of the University of Science and Arts won their first two games of the season over the weekend at Our Lady of the Lake College. USAO defeated Huston-Tillotson College 2-0 Saturday before collecting a 2-1 win over Our Lady of the Lake on Sunday.

Against HTC, Nikola Cakaravic scored the first goal of the game and his first of the season on an assist from Jake Cottage. John Gardner, one of the leaders of USAO’s regional runner-up team in 2006, scored a goal in his first game since that record-breaking season.

Gardner scored his second goal of the season in Sunday’s game against OLL on an assist from Jake Cottage. Senior Terry Adamson scored the game-winning goal on a double assist from Sam Shaddick and Gardner to help USAO to its second straight 2-0 start.

The USAO women battled to a 1-1 tie in Sunday’s game against OLL. Senior forward Amanda Caldeira scored the Drovers only goal on an assist from Norman freshman Elisabeth Kunhart. The women’s season-opening match with HTC, originally scheduled for Saturday, was cancelled.

Next Tuesday’s home opener for the men against Hillsdale Bible College has been postponed until Friday, Sept. 5 due to eligibility issues at HBC. The Drovers will host HBC beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the women’s scheduled home opener against East Central.
