FORT COBB – Fifteenth-ranked Amber-Pocasset shot themselves in the foot at the Ft. Cobb Regional Thursday and lost both games to end their season.
A 3-0 lead going into the seventh looked like a sure win over Hydro-Eakley in their first game but disaster struck in Hydro’s final at bat – and with two outs.
Starter Tanner Collins had been very effective so far but with two down, he walked their seven- and eight- holes then plunked their nine-hole with two strikes on him to load the bases. Third baseman Josh Turner then had to eat a slow infield roller as everyone moved up and a run scored.
Cody Prickett came on to try to save it but second baseman Ethan Doan uncharacteristically booted a routine ground ball for another run then two scored for the win on a close force play at second that went against the Panthers.
Amber played well enough to win. They took a 1-0 lead in the first when Brad Jones scored from third on a throwing error then went up 2-0 when Cody Prickett scored from third on an infield error. Turner drove in the third run, scoring Doan in the fourth inning.
After sitting a game out, Snyder jumped out on them 4-0 in an elimination game but Am-Po rallied in their last at-bat. Collins scored Ellis and Turner with a double but he was left stranded as Snyder shut the Panthers down for the win.
Prickett went three innings, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out three. Turner pitched the final three allowing another run on two hits and also fanning three.
