PLAINVIEW, Texas – Charite Lewis scored more than 20 points for the ninth time this season, but Wayland Baptist turned 22 Drover turnovers into 23 points and took down the University of Science and Arts 69-60 Thursday night.

Four different WBU players hit four first-half 3-pointers to jump out to a 39-28 lead. USAO missed all three 3-pointers and its only free throw in the first half but still shot over 45 percent from the floor.

In the second half, WBU attacked the basket and was rewarded with 26 free throw attempts. The Flying Queens only converted 13 attempts, but USAO couldn’t rally while shooting 2-for-12 from 3-point land in the second half.

Lewis fouled out for the first time all season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The junior forward hit 10-of-14 from the floor to improve her season shooting percentage to 66.1 percent. Aita Gueye was the only other Drover to score in double figures with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting, and she added five rebounds.

Four WBU players scored in double figures led by 17 points and six rebounds from Alex Williams. USAO fell to 8-6 overall after the team’s second straight loss and 2-4 in the league. WBU improved to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the league.

MEN

Teddy Chambers and Jason Griffin combined to score over half the Pioneers’ points as Wayland Baptist won their forth straight game and improved to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in the league with Thursday night’s 59-54 win over the University of Science and Arts.

The pair of Pioneers’ 36 points matched the point total posted by all five of USAO’s starters. Rashaad Singleton led the Drovers with 15 points, but the other four starters struggled -- scoring only 21 points on 9-of-29 shooting. The Drovers held WBU to only eight field goals in the first half and led 25-20 at halftime, but the team went 0-for-9 from the 3-point line in the second half.

WBU also outscored USAO 12-3 at the free throw line in the final period.

Jorge Parra led the bench scoring with eight points and seven rebounds on 4-of-5 shooting. Ehis Osunde scored four points and grabbed five rebounds.

USAO fell to 6-6 overall and into a six-team tie for fourth place with a 3-3 league record. The Drovers travel to Lubbock Christian Saturday afternoon before retuning home for a Thursday night game against Northwestern Oklahoma.
