The Amber-Pocasset Lady Panthers took home third place at the Velma-Alma Comet Classic with a dominant victory.
The Lady Panthers bounced back from a 47-42 semifinal loss to Rush Springs to take down Wayne 51-19.
The Lady Panthers were led on offense by Ashley Kemp and Caton Muncy with both players reaching double figures in points. Muncy led the team with 11 points in the game.
The Lady Panthers used a long scoring run after falling behind by one to pull away from the Lady Bulldogs. They scored 11 straight points after going down 5-4.
Kemp scored four of her points during the run, which was also helped out by a Lady Panther 3-pointer. The Lady Panthers grabbed a 15-7 advantage after the first quarter.
Carli Eubank got the second quarter started with a trey to put her team up by 11.
Wayne’s Morgan Posey ended a long scoring drought for both teams with a trey that brought the Lady Bulldogs to within eight.
The Lady Panthers would finish the first half on a 6-1 scoring run and led 24-11 at halftime.
Makaylie Graham would spark a third-quarter attack on offense that went 7 for 10 from the field and outscored Wayne 18-2.
Graham started the period with a 3-point basket. She hit from range again later in the period.
Three of the Lady Panthers’ field goals in the third came from behind the arc. Caleigh Jeffries hit the other.
While the offense was strong, the Lady Panther defense also stepped up. Wayne ended the game with more turnovers than points.
The win moved Amber-Pocasset to 6-2 on the season.
