With the help of a fourth-quarter rally, the Minco Lady Bulldogs were able to take down the Union City Lady Tigers in the Bulldog Classic. It was Minco’s second win over Union City this season.

Trailing by one after the first quarter, Minco started to gain a foothold in the second eight minutes of the game.

Down by four, the Lady Bulldogs got back to within one thanks to a 3-point basket from Cassidy Franklin. Later, Emme Douglas scored to put the Lady Bulldogs up 16-15.

Minco would extend its lead to four at the half, thanks to a basket from Brittany Mitchell.

Mitchell scored nine of her 20 points in the first half as the Lady Bulldogs took a 20-16 lead into halftime.

Union City would put together a rally in the third quarter, thanks to the offensive performance of Hunter Johnson.

Johnson scored nine of her 20 points in the period, including three from a trey that put the Lady Tigers up 31-28 heading to the final eight minutes of the game.

However, the Lady Bulldogs would show their mental toughness and come out strong on both ends of the court, outscoring their opponent 23-8 over the course of the final eight minutes.

Minco regained the lead on a Kiley Utsler basket. That was part of a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter, and Minco would not look back.

The Lady Bulldogs did plenty of damage at the free-throw line. They hit 10 in the final quarter to help seal the victory.

The win sends the Lady Bulldogs to the finals of the tournament. That is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start tonight.

That result will be added to this story for the Tuesday edition of The Express-Star.
