Energy FC holds on for road points

OKLAHOMA CITY —

Oklahoma City Energy FC went ten games into their inaugural season without a single tie. Over the weekend, they got two of them.

A 2-2 result against Wilmington Hammerheads on Friday was followed up by a 1-1 draw away to Charlotte Eagles on Saturday. The results leave them ninth in the USL PRO table with 11 points from 12 games.

Coming off their first win at home the previous Saturday, Energy FC took the game to Wilmington in the first half of that game. The Hammerheads recovered, however, to take a 1-0 lead on the stroke of halftime.

Philip Lund equalized for OKC just five minutes into the second half. Wilmington struck back through Tom Parratt before second-half substitute Kyle Greig scored his fourth goal of the season for Energy FC in the 78th minute.

Goalkeeper Jon Kempin made four of his five saves in the second half, keeping Energy FC close enough to get a point from the encounter.

Similar heroics from Smir Badr in goal helped OKC to a draw with Charlotte. This time it was the visitors who took the lead through Edmond-native Steven Perry in the 33rd minute.

Energy FC held that lead through halftime, but three minutes later the Eagles struck back. Wells Thompson equalized in the 48th minute. Despite outshooting Energy FC 16-6 for the game, Charlotte could not find a winner.

Energy FC returns home on Saturday when they'll face Sacramento Republic at 7 p.m. It's the start of a six-game home stand for OKC.
