Robert Gene Melton

— Funeral services for Robert Gene Melton, of Chickasha, OK will be held at the Sevier Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

Robert Gene Melton was born May 9, 1932 in Chattanooga, OK to Posey Astor (P.A.) and Minnie Pearl (McMasters) Melton.  He passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 81.

When he was 8 years old he moved with his family to Durant, Oklahoma.  Robert graduated from Blue High School, Durant, OK, in 1952.  He then moved to Odessa, Texas to work in the oil fields.  He raised his family in Odessa and after 32 years moved to Chickasha in 1980 with Santa Fe Oil Co.  He retired as Drilling Superintendent from Santa Fe. Oil Co.

He married Ilona Maye (Henderson) Cooper on February 14, 1991 in Chickasha, OK and together they raised two grandchildren, Brookelyne and Lori.  He was a member since 1970 of the Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason and a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge in Chickasha.  

Robert was known as PaPa Bob to all of his grandkids and to many other friends.  He loved his grandchildren more than anything.  He enjoyed giving piggy back rides and sharing his sweet treats with them.  He was always telling them funny little stories and singing silly songs.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Ilona; his parents; 5 brothers: Hubert, Posey, Jack, Don, and Jake Melton; 2 sisters: Mary Mullins and Trula Counts; a step-daughter, Amity Brooke Cooper, a son-in-law, Art Hadley.

He is survived by four daughters:  Lori Anne Cooper, of California, Brookelyne Colleen Cooper, of the home, Deborah Hadley, of Levelland, TX, Ragina Melton, of Odessa, TX; a son, Eric Melton, of Odessa, TX; Stepchildren:  Candi McElroy and Deirik Riley, of Chickasha, Kenzie Clark, of Cement, Ok, Tara Thompson, of Carnegie, Allen Cooper and his wife, Diana of Moore, OK, Timmy Cooper and his wife, Renee, of San Antonio, TX; Grandchildren:  Stephanie, Coleman, Sheldon, Austin, Lexi, Caden, Courtnie, Tayla, Tyson,Marcus, Kendall and Collin; Great-grandson, Kyle and Sister: Geneva Cargel, of Ardmore, OK


Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
