Maribeth Ellen Salyer Smith

— Funeral service for Maribeth Ellen Salyer Smith, 70, of Chickasha, will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at the Sharon Baptist Church in Chickasha.

MARIBETH ELLEN SALYER SMITH went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 30, 2013 while she was doing what she loved to do, spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Maribeth was beloved and respected by many – her family, friends and her church.

Maribeth was born May 28, 1943 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Clint and Edith Salyer.  She married J.W. Smith on Nov. 10, 1962 and together they had three children, Todd, Jami and Ryan.  She received her bachelor of arts degree in education from University of Science and Arts in Chickasha.  After graduating, she taught music at Friend School and later in life her sole “occupation” and passion was loving her family and keeping the books for Jay’s Mini-Stop.

Maribeth was committed to her faith and her family and was a classic matriarch of a loving collection of three children, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  Her family, her friends, her extended family (and even their friends) were always so grateful for her motherly advice and wisdom.  She was generous with her time and resources and was a  benefactor of many individuals, ministries, and organizations.  Maribeth was devoted to delivering meals to shut-ins in the Meals-on-Wheels program and spent many hours in service to Sharon Baptist Church.  She was beloved member of that church community for 40 years.

Maribeth was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her brother, Gary.

She is survived by her husband J.W. (“Jay”), her sister Carolyn Longanacre; her three children and their families: son Todd and his wife Michelle of Chickasha, their children Jeromy Smith, Tiffany McGaughey, Chason Grigg, John Burns, and Tayten Smith ; daughter Jami and her husband Justin King of  Oklahoma City, their daughter Emory and son Griffin; son Ryan and his wife Adriane of Edmond, their son Graham and daughters Abigail and Eleanor.

Maribeth and J.W. celebrated their anniversary of 50 years of commitment to each other in November 2012.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a contribution in Maribeth’s name to your favorite charitable organization.
