John Henry Bitsche

— Funeral mass for John Henry Bitsche, of Chickasha, OK will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Holy Name Catholic Church.  Wake service will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 31 at the Sevier Funeral Home Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Name Catholic Church Elevator Fund.

John Henry Bitsche was born February 8, 1917 in Chickasha, OK to Edward and Alma (Kurtz) Bitsche.  He passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at his home in Chickasha at the age of 97.

Mr. Bitsche was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army from January 1941 to September 1945.  He was a member of the Anti-tank 180th Infantry Regiment 45th Division Oklahoma National Guard.

He married Irene M. Hommertzheim on June 16, 1947 in Sharon, Kansas.  They were owners of Bitsche’s Nursery and Greenhouse in Chickasha.

Mr. Bitsche was a lifetime member of the 45th Infantry Division Association and 180th Infantry Regiment Association.  He was active in the Boy Scouts for over 50 years, a basketball coach for St. Joseph’s Eagles and a Little League Baseball Coach.  He was also a lifetime member of both the Knights of Columbus and the VFW Post 1827, Charlottesville, VA.  He helped with the Festival of Lights repairing the lights for over 10 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill Bitsche; 2 sisters, Florence Greynolds and Dorothy Russell; a granddaughter, Alma (Allie) Bitsche and a son-in-law, Charlie Duff.

Mr. Bitsche is survived by his wife, Irene Bitsche, of the home
