Reva Mae Burlison

— Funeral for Reva Mae Burlison,88, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Andy Lashley will officiate and Brian Johnson will assist.

Reva Mae Royal was the 7th of 9 children, born to Walter Scott Royal Sr. and Nellie Speer Royal. She was born in rural Harmon County, near Hollis, Oklahoma on September 23, 1925. She passed away on April 16, 2014, in Chickasha.

As a small child, the family moved to Whitharrel, Texas, where they bought a farm. This was during the Dust Bowl days and although farming was very difficult in those days they endured their life there until her Mother passed away in 1929. The family moved to Montague County, Texas, where her father grew up and still had family.

Reva started first grade in Dye Mound, Texas in a one room school house. During her second year of school, the family moved back to Harmon County, Oklahoma. The family were cotton farmers, grew livestock and grew everything they had to eat, as well as feed for all their livestock. Even though this all took place during the Great Depression, life was simple and unhurried. Many fond memories were always very dear to her. She attended school at LaCasa, a country school built in part by the WPA.

In 1943, she married Aaron David Burlison in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Together they had four children that all survived her. Reva loved her life as a "stay at home Mom". When her youngest was in middle school she took odd jobs outside the home. Her most loved job was "lunch room lady" at Tecumseh Public Schools, where she worked until her retirement.

Many loved ones preceded her in death, her beloved husband of 46 years, A. D. Burlison; her parents, Walter Scott and Nellie Speer Royal; three brothers, Clive Royal, Walter Scott Royal, Jr., and Carl Royal; four sisters, Georgia (Dandy) Royal, Ola Belle Long, Mary Muse and Margie Tedford; one precious grandson, Scott Burlison; two nieces, Lorrie Riggs and Louise Cottril; one nephew, Steve Royal.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Gary and Nancy Burlison of Tecumseh, Ron and Maggie Burlison of Fromberg, Montana, Debbie and Dwight Sehon of Chickasha, and David and Kaye Burlison; brother, Clyde Royal of Maricopa, California; grandchildren, Gina and Johnie Fredman of Shawnee, Summer and Andy Lashley of Edmond, Maresa and Jeff Wade of Tulsa, Aaron Burlison of Fromberg, Montana, Molly and Jerad McCartney of Boise, Idaho; great grandchildren, Heather Burlison of Mustang, Haden Burlison of Mustang, Kaylie Fredman of Shawnee, Allison Fredman of Shawnee, Mia Lashley of Edmond, Bode Lashley of Edmond, Liam McCartney of Boise, Idaho, Cassia McCartney of Boise, Idaho; great great grandson, Elijah Scott; many nieces and nephews, including very special ones, Carolyn and John Harkrider of Moore, Patsy Donaldson of Blackwell, Jan and Bobby Johnson of Moore, Jeanie Lovelace of Pinson, Tennessee, and Jim Tedford of Pinson, Tennessee; many other family members from California to Tennessee. Through the internet, Reva has found cousins that are now very precious and dear to her, Raymond and Donna Royal of Union, Oregon, David and Linda Parr of Azle, Texas and Max and Linda Easter of Weatherford.

Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Tecumseh Cemetery in Tecumseh , Oklahoma. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.

There will be no viewing at the service.
