Billie Jean Terry

— Memorial service to honor the life of Billie Jean Terry (Adkins), 81of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the McRay Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Tims officiating.

Jean came into this world on February 3, 1932, the only child of Clem Houston and Alberta Davis. On September 26, 2013with her family by her side she departed this world to join her heavenly family.

Jean spent her entire childhood in Clarendon, Texas, with the exception of the time her parents along with their siblings moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they found jobs working on a dam project. The family then returned to Clarendon, Texas where Jean lived until graduating from high school in 1950. While in high school, she played half-court basketball for the school team. After graduation, she was employed for the telephone company where she worked as one of the last of the PBX switch board operators.

Jean met the love of her life, Herbert Terry in Amarillo, Texas while at a USO dance. On April 16, 1954, they eloped to Tucumcari, New Mexico and spent the next 58 years together. During their marriage, they moved quite often following her husband Herbs 10 year career in the United State Air Force. They were stationed in New Mexico, Florida and Peas Air Force base in New Hampshire. They eventually settled and made their home in Chickasha in 1994.

Jean loved to read and collected a library full of books in her lifetime. The one book she read many times over was her bible. Every morning she would put aside the time to sit and read from her bible. A devoted wife and loving mother, she was always ready to offer a word of advice or a much needed hug.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving parents, Clem and Alberta Adkins and her son, Michael David Terry.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Terry of the home and daughters, Marcia Terry of the home, Deborah Terry of Chickasha and Patricia Putman of Amarillo, Texas. She also has eight grandchildren, Robin, Erica, Michael, Dannie, Ashley, T. J., Samantha and Jessie and three great grandchildren.

Interment will be on a later date at the Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon, Texas. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
