Mary Ellen Faulk Addy was born on Oct. 31, 1926, in Lindsay, to Charles and Josephine Henley Faulk. She passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, in Lindsay.

Mary Ellen graduated from Lindsay High School in 1944 and went on to Oklahoma A & M University, earning a Bachelors degree in English. She also earned a Masters degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Mary Ellen married Charles L. Addy in Zurich, Switzerland on Aug. 27, 1959, after spending the summer studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. They made their home in Alex, raising two daughters.

Mary Ellen taught English, Speech, French, and Vocal Music in Oklahoma and New Mexico for 29 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Alex and the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, as well as the Oklahoma and Grady County Democratic Women and the League of Women Voters.

Mary Ellen loved to sing, loved to laugh and always wanted to talk about politics, O.S.U., her grandson and the family dogs. She was always the educator, learning all she could about her Parkinson’s diagnosis and educating others along the way.

She is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; daughters Francine Novosad and husband Gene of Enid and Rosemary Addy of Silver Spring, Maryland; grandson, Zachary Novosad of Enid; sister, Mildred Estes of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Inez Addy of Chickasha; 9 nieces and nephews, Pam Faulk and John Robinson, Glenn and Alice Faulk, Glenyce Feeney and Don Bennett, Robert and Cindy Estes, Betty and Mike Crawford, Martha Burford and Katherine Brittain, Susan Addy, Sharman Addy and Don Armstrong, Sam Davis, and Cathy and Howard Bernstein, 11 great nieces, nephews and their families; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Josie Faulk; two sisters, Gladys Faulk and Maxine Burford; two brothers, Glenn Faulk and Gene Faulk; one niece, Laurel Davis; one nephew, David Addy; and one great-nephew, Jason Davis.

The services will be held at the Alex United Methodist Church on Friday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. under the direction of McRay Funeral Home in Chickasha. Donations may be made to Skyline Urban Ministry, 500 S.E. 15th Street, Oklahoma City, OK, 73129, in memory of Mary Ellen Addy.
