— Edward Clay (Buddy) McWhorter

Funeral services for Edward Clay (Buddy) McWhorter of Chickasha, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Chickasha.

Buddy was born to Henry Clay McWhorter and Lillie Maud (Venable) McWhorter in Chickasha on Aug. 7, 1926.  He died on Dec. 6, 2013, at his home in Chickasha at the age of 87.  His parents and his sister, Lawana McWhorter Wesner, preceded him in death.

Buddy graduated from Chickasha High School in 1944 and promptly joined the Navy during WWII.  He was a postal clerk in the Navy and he continued with this career choice after the war when he returned to Chickasha in 1947.  He retired as the Post Master of the Chickasha Post Office.

Buddy was married to Charlotte Moss and from this union he has two daughters who survive him.  They are Donna McWhorter Ohl & husband Bill, and Diane McWhorter Pace & husband Jim.  He was also blessed with four grandchildren, Kelly Mears & husband TJ, Darin Ohl & wife Mindy, Marcy Ohl, and Ashley Heddy & husband Justin; five great-grandchildren are also going to miss Buddy.  They are Nathan and Austin Mears, and Avery, Marshall and Collin Ohl.

Buddy is survived by Ira (Susie) McWhorter of the home.  They were married on Aug. 21, 1981.  Buddy and Susie were a loving and dedicated couple who served as an excellent example of marital harmony.  They enjoyed everything from working in the yard together to the many trips and cruises they went on.  Watching them on the dance floor was a treat.

Buddy was happy to include Susie’s children as part of his family.  They are Teresa Linn & husband Tom, Steve Harris, Rhonda Moon & husband Mike, Don Shafer, and David Asetoyer.  Grandchildren include Jennifer Sloan, Natalie Lim & fiancé Brant Taylor, Andria Lim & Steven Doan, Sean Ferguson, and Harrison Moon & fiancée Angel Ayala; and great-grandchildren are Cristian Lim and Mikalin Doan.

All of this family as well as nieces and nephews from both sides of the family will miss Buddy.

Buddy retired from the Navy Reserve in 1971.  He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge in Chickasha, a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, and a former Rotarian.  He thoroughly enjoyed working with the Little League Association; he coached for a few years and continued to remember the boys on his team for the rest of his life.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
