A private family service was held on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. for Noah Wilbur Shaw, Jr. He was interred in Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. in Epworth United Methodist Church, where Wilbur had been a member since 1947 and also had sung in the Chancel Choir, for nearly 50 years.
Noah Wilbur Shaw, 89, lifelong Chickasha resident and businessman, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Norman, where he had resided for the past several months. He was born in the Amber community on June 12, 1923, the second of five children to Noah Wilbur Shaw and Mary Ellen Blanton Shaw. He was educated in the Amber Public School with later studies in his specialized field at several vocational institutions and the University of Oklahoma.
On Nov. 27, 1941, he married his high school sweetheart, Klova Dee Estes at her parent's home in Amber. He tried farming briefly, then went into the Navy as a Sea Bee after the outbreak of World War II. It was in the Navy that he got his start in jewelry, doing watch repair for fellow sailors in his free time. He was self-taught due to his childhood interest in the workings of time pieces.
Wilbur's success with his watchmaking job in the Navy led to the lifelong work he loved so much - the designing and creating original jewelry pieces. The SHaws later purchased Frye's Jewlery where they worked until their retirement in 2000.
Wilbur also worked tirelessly at being a volunteer worker in the Chickasha area through civic organizations, the one which he was most proud, the Chickasha Auxilliary Police Force, which he served as one of its primary organizers and trainers as well as it's first Chief, a job he loved and continued for a number of years.
Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James and sister-in-law Polly Shaw, brother Cyrus and sister-in-law Norma Shaw, sister Mary June Shaw Null and brother-in-law Earl Null, sister Pearl Shaw McClain and brother-in-law Joe McClain and son-in-law Brent Robinson.
He is survived by his wife, Klova Dee of Chickasha; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Wanda Darleen Shaw Harrison and Keith Harrison of Chickasha, Delores Ann Shaw Horn and Scott Horn of Baton Rouge, LA, and Kathy Dianne Shaw Robinson of Scottsdale, Ariz., along with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
