Funeral service for Alpha Howard Montgomery, age 88, of Chickasha will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Ninnekah First Baptist Church. Rev. Bob Gordon will officiate and Rev. Mike Reynolds will assist.
Alpha Howard Montgomery was born the daughter of Henry Elisha Swindell and Adeline Bilbrey Swindell on Dec. 25, 1924, in Coalgate, Oklahoma. She died on April 23, 2013, in Oklahoma City.
Alpha was raised in Amber and graduated from Amber High School. She lived in the Meridian Community until moving to Chickasha in 1980. Alpha worked for Farm Bureau for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Chickasha Round-Up Club since 1955.
Alpha married Rubin Jackson Howard on Aug. 18, 1953, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1987. She married Clyde Sylvester Montgomery on Aug. 12, 1987, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He preceded her in death on May 20, 2008.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Paul Swindell; two sisters, Delpha Shipley and Cleta Whitaker; and two grandsons, Joseph Swann and Jason Howard; one great-grandson, Patrick DeWayne Swann.
Survivors include son Larry Howard and wife, Carolyn of Chickasha; daughter Roberta Swann of Chickasha; daughter Beth Black of Oklahoma City; daughter Shari Kinsey of El Reno; sister Melba Garrison of Oklahoma City; sister Laveta Clark of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.
