Jeanne Marie Polk

Jan. 5, 1957 - April 4, 2012

Jeanne Marie Polk departed this life and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 4, 2012. Jeanne was an amazing individual with a tenacious spirit and deep love of her family and friends.

Jeanne was born Jan. 5, 1957 in Chickasha. She graduated as valedictorian of Chickasha high school and attended the University of Oklahoma, where she joined the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Jeanne excelled academically and was inducted into the Gamma Gamma Freshman Honor Society at OU. She graduated cum laude with a degree in Petroleum Geology in 1979 and worked for several years at Hamilton Brothers Oil Company in Oklahoma City before she retired to start a family.

Jeanne devoted her life to her family. Her children were her pride and joy, and she never missed an opportunity to contribute in their lives. She was active in the Casady Parents Organization and attended all of her kids’ sporting events. Even after her children left for college, she never missed a USC parents weekend and was an active member of the Theta Moms Club at USC. Even though Jeanne bled Crimson and Cream as an avid Oklahoma fan, she enjoyed rooting on the Trojans with her children.

Jeanne was extremely generous and was involved in many charitable and philanthropic organizations. She was active at Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Junior League of Oklahoma City. She was constantly challenging herself and taking on new endeavors. She was the first female president of the OU Geology Alumni Association. She was a board member at the OU Breast Institute and involved in the American Heart Association Heart Ball, and a supporting member of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.

Jeanne loved her bridge club, book club, golfing at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, and taking long walks with her friends and pets. She treasured family time and planned many memorable excursions to such places as Yellowstone National Park, Hawaii, Colorado ski trips, and the Caribbean.

Holiday gatherings were a special time for Jeanne and her family. Jeanne’s family not only included immediate relatives, but extended families and life-long friends. No matter where Jeanne was her personality made all feel welcome and at home.

She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family without reservation and gave of herself without hesitation. She will be most remembered for her strength, incredible grace, and beautiful smile. She will be deeply missed.

Jeanne is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Randel J. Polk, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and her two wonderful children; Robert B. Polk, of Houston, Texas, and Elizabeth Jeanne Polk, of Dallas, Texas.

She is survived by her parents; Bettye and John Minnett of Chickasha, Oklahoma; her sister and brother-in-law, Mita and Bob Bates of Adrmore, Oklahoma; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Karna Minnett of Denver, Colorado; mother-in-law Marjorie Polk, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Tom Klos of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma;
