Elizabeth Belle Reyburn Preece, 92, passed away peacefully at her home of 67 years on July 6, 2014. She was born May 21, 1922 in Chickasha,  to Lila Loffhagen Reyburn and Earl Henry Reyburn. She was a graduate of Chickasha High School (1940) and Hills Business College of Oklahoma City (1941).

At the beginning of WWII, she was employed at Borden General Hospital and Southwestern Bell Telephone in Chickasha, when she met the love of her life at a USO dance (Joseph William Preece, of Philadelphia, a W&B Flight School Cadet). They were married November 6, 1943, in the Chapel at Barksdale Field, Shreveport, Louisiana. They danced together through 65 years of marriage until Joe’s death in November of 2008. It is impossible to write about Liz (Mother) without saying Liz and Joe (Dad) because they were partners in all aspects of life, loving their family, friends and neighbors, church, home and country. Through the years, Liz was very active in the community as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, the Republican Party, Board Member of the United Way and Grady County Historical Society, serving as Chairman and Co-Chairman for fund drives for both. She was a member of the Jaycee Jaynes, Chi Beta Delphin Study Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for over 60 years and taught Sunday School, the youth group, and she served on the Altar Guild for many years along with other church activities. Liz stayed at home taking care of Jan and Susan through grade school, seeing that they had swimming and piano lessons, horses and a place for all their friends. But because she was so gracious, she was talked into being the receptionist for the Oklahoma National Bank, then later the Social Director of USAO. She established Elizabeth Preece & Associates Real Estate and maintained a very successful residential, farm and commercial business until her retirement. Her beautiful, practical taste created curb appeal for any property. Liz and Joe loved to celebrate holidays and family occasions in their home, always welcoming someone from everywhere – from Fort Sill cadets during Viet Nam to Rotary International Officers – always providing food, singing, piano playing and laughter. They enjoyed travel especially in New Mexico with Susan and Doug, trips to the East and West Coasts and England. They loved their grandsons visits in the summers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Granville Louis Reyburn, brothers-in-law John B. Winstead and George Edgar Hobson, sister-in-law, Elsie Preece Hobson, and granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Barnes. She is survived by daughters Jan Preece Gaddis of Duncan, Oklahoma, and Susan Preece Barnes, and husband, Douglas A. Barnes, of Hawkins, Texas; grandsons Douglas Alan Barnes, Jr., of The Plains, Virginia, and Joseph Ward Barnes and wife, Brandi Barnes, of Royce City, Texas; great-grandchildren, Zachary Tyler and Lucas Ward Barnes, of Royce City, Texas; sister Erma Reyburn Winstead, of Chickasha, Oklahoma; nephews Kurt Alan Reyburn and wife, Eileen, of Fredricksburg, Virginia, Gregory Preece Hobson and wife, Sharon, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, and John Fullerton Hobson and wife, Mickey, of Norristown, Pennsylvania, and their children, Amy, Katie and Sara. The family is especially grateful to her inhome care givers, Ginger, Jean, Kathy, Lelia, and Mary, and Richard for the yard care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Altar Flower/Organ Fund, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 124 S. 6th Street, Chickasha, OK 73018; Grady County Historical Society, P. O. Box 495, Chickasha, OK 73023; or a charity of choice.

Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK.
