Funeral service for Hally "Hal" Paul Wood of Cement, will be held at McRay Funeral Home in Chickasha,  at 12 noon on Friday, June 13, 2014. Interment will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin.

Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4, Hally "Hal" Paul Wood of Cement, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City due to heart failure and battling lung cancer. He was 78.

Hal was born on June 25, 1935 in Archer City, Texas, the son of Margaret and John D. Wood. He graduated from Archer City High School in 1954. He married Jaunita LaBelle Gilbreath from Wichita Falls, Texs in 1955. Together, they raised four children: Ramona, Bryan, Trena and John.

Hal worked for the Texas Highway department and served in the Texas National Guard where he soon became Active Duty for the US Army in 1961 and served until 1985. Throughout his Army career, Hal completed several tours in South Korea and Germany and deployment to Vietnam. He also earned an Associate Degree in Business. After his retirement from the US Army, Hal then became a Civil Service employee where he was a Technical Writer and Instructor for the Meteorological School at Fort Sill until 1995, amounting to 32 years and seven months of Federal Service for his country.

Upon retirement, Hal enjoyed living at his ranch in Cement. He was the loving patriarch of a large family, consisting of four children, 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He loved sharing his life experiences and was a dynamic story teller.

Throughout his life he sought adventure. He became an avid sailor and pursued his fascination with aeronautics by flying gliders. His hobbies included collecting arrowheads, gold panning and studying history and western folklore while also completing his entire family genealogical history. He volunteered his time unselfishly to the Boy Scouts of America and the Cement Football program. He was also a member of the North East Lawton Lion’s Club for several years.

Hal is survived by his wife of 59 years Juanita Wood, his daughter Ramona Glover, his son Bryan Wood and wife Brenda all of Cement,  his son John Wood and wife Becky of Duncan, his brother Ardie Wood and wife Norma of Windthorst, Texas, his sister-in-law Geneva Wood of Archer City, Texas and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Hal was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Wood, two brothers Joe and Max "Bo" Wood and his youngest daughter Trena Marie Wood Shotkoski.

Hal will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.

Viewing will be Thursday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
