Services for James R. Starkey, 83, of Minco, will be held on Wednesday, June 5 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Minco. The burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Minco under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home of Minco. Starkey was born on Oct. 30, 1929 in Oklahoma City to Joseph James Starkey Jr. and Beatrice (Strever) Starkey. He died on Sunday, June 2 in his home in Minco.
James was raised in the Minco community, attended Minco Schools and graduated from Minco High School in 1943. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He married Betty Goodwin on July 24, 1943. They were married for 63 years. He served on the National Guard and the Minco School Board. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Hubert G. Starkey, sisters Grace Rowe and husband Dale, Hazel Malcom and husband Bruce Elene Castillo and husband Jay, daughter-law Debbie Starkey.
He is survived by wife Betty of the home in Minco, three sons: Joe Starkey of Minco, Don Starkey of Minco, and David Starkey and wife CamSa of Houston, Texas, sister Lucille McComas of Chickasha and six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
