— Shirley Brooksher Burnes
Shirley Brooksher Burnes was born to Ralph and Theda Faye (Anglin) Brooksher on August 6, 1949, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She went to her heavenly home on February 27, 2013. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Bible Baptist Church with Bro. Kim Hayes officiating.
Shirley married the love of her life, Martin Burnes on July 16, 1971. They spent the next forty-two years in the Chickasha area. She was known for keeping a spotless house and a beautiful yard, which she spent many hours landscaping. When she wasn’t outside working, she enjoyed doing genealogy research. Over the years, Shirley served as a Girl Scout troop leader, unofficial cheerleader at many Ninnekah and Chickasha sporting events, and was always active in the community. She was also an advocate for grandparents’ rights, which led to many friendships with grandparents from across the country. Shirley spent many summers camping in the mountains of Colorado with Martin, her kids, and sometimes her grandkids. She also enjoyed her trips to Bike Week in Daytona, FL and Sturgis. Shirley and Martin raised their grandson, Dakota, until his death in 2002. He brought much joy and excitement to their lives.
Shirley was preceded in death by: both parents; two brothers, Harold Dean Brooksher and Bobby Brooksher; one grandson, Dakota Steven Burnes.
Survivors include: husband Martin of the home; daughter Jennifer Burnes of Norman; son Shane Burnes of Ninnekah; brothers Don Brooksher and wife Sundra of Edmond, Ron Brooksher of Mustang, and Jim Brooksher of Littleton, CO; grandsons Danny Shane Burnes, Derek Burnes, Khristian Burnes, granddaughter Kacie Jane Burnes; great-grandson Dustin Burnes; and lifelong friend and partner in mischief, Cody Eades of Mustang, as well as a host of other friends and family.
