Funeral service for Kathleen Beverly Allen, age 83 of Chickasha, OK will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 in the First Baptist Church. Rev. Johnny Tims will officiate.
Beverly was born the daughter of James Julius Chapman and Dorothy Jean Carey Chapman on July 31, 1929 in Duluth, MN. She died on April 28, 2013 in Chickasha.
Beverly served in the Women’s Army Corps where she met and later married Captain Charles C. Allen, Sr on July 10, 1951 at Ft. Meade, Maryland. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1982.
Beverly graduated from Hermantown, MN in 1947 where she was homecoming queen. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She was recognized as the fastest speed reader in the world from 1970-1979. Beverly had been a longtime teacher in the Chickasha Public Schools and Pioneer School where she was teacher of the year in 1980. She was a former Board of Director of the Chickasha Bank and was currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Verden.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha where she founded the Children’s Worship Program. Beverly had served as President of Youth Services and oversaw the building of the new facility. She served on countless boards and held an instrumental part in the community of Chickasha. Beverly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had a sense of humor, quick wit, and a disarming smile that will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dorothy Chapman; son, Charles C. Allen, Jr. on September 4, 1998; sister, Naomi Grignon.
Survivors include son & daughter-in-law, Jim & Teresa Allen; son & daughter-in-law, John & Laurie Allen; daughter & son-in-law, Kay & Mike Hurley; grandchildren, Derek & Sharlet Allen, Elizabeth Allen, & Mary Kathleen Allen, Christina Allen & John William Allen, Sydney Lewis, Will Hurley, & Michael Hurley; great grandchildren, Michael, Cooper, & Anna Kay Allen; brother & wife, James D. & Laura Chapman of Duluth, MN; numerous nieces and nephews; dogs, Bella & Shebe; cat, Lucille.
Special thanks goes to those who loved and cared for her throughout the years. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
