Albert Marion Keim
Funeral service for Albert Marion Keim, 94, of Chickasha will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at the First Christian Church.
Albert Marion Keim was born to George H. and Alice Mary Marsh Keim on Feb. 6, 1918 in Walters, and died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 in
Norman. He was 15 days shy of his 95th birthday.
Al graduated from Walters High School in 1936. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, studied at Iowa State University, and served as an Electrician’s Mate First Class on destroyers and sub-chasers in the Pacific, during the war.
On Aug. 27, 1948, Al married Pauline Ross, in Norman. He worked for Parker and Big Chief Drilling Companies as a motor man and driller.
The family moved from Chickasha to the Pioneer Community in 1963, when Al purchased the first herd of Charolais cattle in Grady County.
Al loved gardening, growing vegetables and flowers (especially roses). It was his joy to share his bounty with friends.
Serving on the Pioneer School Board, Al served as clerk, and was instrumental in the building of the new school building.
In other capacities, Al spent many years serving his community. He and his daughter, Carolyn, delivered Mobile Meals for 16 years, and from 2002-2012, he worked monthly at the Emergency Food Pantry.
As a third-generation Disciple (Christian Church-Disciples of Christ), he and Polly were long-time members of the First Christian Church in Chickasha. Al served numerous terms as a Deacon and served on, and chaired several committees. Al was honored for his long service and dedication in 2003, and selected as Deacon Emeritus in 2010.
Al developed his own outreach, by visiting shut-in friends of the church on Sunday afternoons, and delivered them homemade treats for over seven years.
The love of poetry was evidenced both by him reciting poems learned throughout his childhood and by him penning his own poetry. Al won several district and state awards, from A.S.C.O.G., for his poems. His favorite poem: “A House by the Side of the Road”, by Sam Walter Foss.
