Funeral Mass for James Otis Bonds, Sr., 97, of Chickasha will be held 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at the Holy Name Catholic Church.  Wake service will be held at

6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home.

James Otis Bonds, Sr. was born Dec. 16, 1915 in Big Springs, Texas the son of John B. and Bee O. (Burnett) Bonds.  He died Jan. 21, 2013 at his home in Chickasha.

James began his service in the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1941 as an airplane mechanic. He worked for Civil Service with the U.S. Navy  stationed in the South Pacific and SE Asia. James also worked for the Naval Air Station in Alameda, Calif.  He served a total of 37 years. James loved his country.  

After his retirement in 1973 he moved to Chickasha.  After retirement he was a bus driver in Middleberg and later worked for Surge Dairy Supply.

James and Lula Belle Newton were married July 4, 1958 in Reno, Nev.  She was the love of his life.

He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church.

James was preceded in death by four brothers:  Harry, John, Melvin and Harvey Bonds; two sisters:  Sue and Betty Bonds; brother-in-law and sister-in-law:  Al and Kathy Feroli and sister-in-law:  Lois Newton.

Survivors include wife:  Lula Bonds of the home; two children, James O. Bonds, Jr. of Chickasha and Cindy and husband Brian Brand of Alex; Grandchildren:  Jodi Bonds of Alex, Matthew and wife Jennifer Brand of Alex, Jessica Boyd of Chickasha, Danielle Brand of Chickasha, Jesse and Katie Bonds of Ninnekah; great-grandchildren:  Raven Bonds, Henry James Brand, Lily, Kaelynn and Warren Boyd; numerous nieces and nephews special Maralee and Ray Magness of Roswell, New Mexico and Mel (Grumpy) Bonds of St. Louis, MS and numerous friends

Interment will be in the Purcell Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
