Memorial services will be held at a later date for Larry Allen Austin, 73, of Chickasha.

Larry Allen Austin was born Dec. 9, 1940 in Atkins, Arkansas to Dolan and Eula (Keener) Austin. He passed away at his home, in Chickasha, Thursday, April 10, 2014.

Larry grew up and attended school in Atkins, Arkansas. He joined the U. S. Army in 1963. In the summer of 1967, Larry married Elisabeth Walz in Nuremberg, Germany.

He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years as a communication specialist. After retiring from the military, he worked for the Minco Water Plant for 18 years. He then worked as a driver for the Washita Valley Transit until 2012.

Larry’s favorite past-time and serious hobby was operating and installing ham radio communications and equipment.

He was greatly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janice Jay; and four brothers, Troy Austin, Maurice Austin, Keith Austin, and Guy Reed Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth Austin of the home; son, David Austin of Wichita Falls, Texas; step-daughter, Stefanie Cristos and her husband, John of Southport, NC; brother, Bob Reed of Atkins, Ark.; two granddaughters, Elyse Cristos of Cincinnati, Ohio and Megan Austin of Huntsville, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
