— Marshia Gwen (Myers) Byte
Marshia Gwen (Myers) Byte, of Pocasset, OK, passed away April 3, 2014 at Integris Baptist Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born October 26, 1943 in Chickasha.
Marshia was born and raised in Pocasset on the family farm where she later made her
home. She graduated from Pocasset High School in 1961. In 1970 she married the love
of her life Andy Byte. After staying home for 22 years to raise her family, she earned an Associate’s Degree from Redlands Community College in 1994. She then attended University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma earning a Bachelor’s Degree in 1996. She continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford where she obtained a Master’s of Education in 1998 at the age of 55. She took and passed the certification for Licensed Professional Counselor in 1999. Marshia worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor in several settings for many years. Later, she and Andy opened a counseling office, Byte & Associates, in Chickasha where they worked with their children, until her passing.
Marshia loved music and loved to sing and write music. She was part of a singing group with her sister and two friends that began singing in 1975. They performed and entertained all over Oklahoma and Texas. While the group gradually became smaller, she and her friend, Crystal Coleman continued to entertain various civic organizations around the Chickasha area. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening and going to the casino. Most of all she enjoyed spending
time with her family and grandchildren.
Marshia was preceded in death by her parents, William “Carl” and Betty Myers, infant
brother, Dwain Myers and sister, Gloria Smith of Yukon.
Survivors include her husband, Andy Byte of Pocasset; son and daughter-in-law Glyn and Mandy Byte of Bridgecreek with their children Chloe, Makinsey and Cruz; daughter and son-in-law Juli and Spencer Schroeder of Pocasset with their children Cale, Camryn, Caisyn and Cutler; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Sherian Myers of Owasso; sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Fred Imel of Yukon; her lifelong friend and “other brother,” Derrell Bortell and his wife, Beverly of Pocasset.
