"The Sweetest Grandma Ever"

Funeral service for Melba Bonnie Crider, age 101 of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Father Justin Fletcher will officiate.

Melba was born the daughter of Lubben R. "L.R." and Rosa Howard Rosenboom on Sept. 29, 1912 in Laurel, Montana. She died on May 4, 2014 at her home in Chickasha.

Melba was married to C.G. Crider on Sept. 8, 1931 in Altus. They went on to become a successful business couple. She and C.G. owned a furniture store and restaurant in Lawton and OK Barber and Beauty Supply in Chickasha for many years. C.G. passed away shortly after their 60th wedding anniversary. She also worked at the voting polls for several years supporting local government. Her greatest loves were her grandchildren, her garden and church. Melba was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents L.R. and Rosa Rosenboom; siblings Walter, Orval, Ray, Corkey, Pearlie, Micky, Rudy, Eugene, Walburga and Betty Lou; her daughter Rosa Dawn Hilliary, grandson Charles Lawrence Hilliary, and an infant granddaughter, Bobbie Jean Crider.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Jack and Linda Crider; her son-in-law Leonard Hilliary; her grandkids Connie, Charles, Michael, Tracey, Steven and Dani; 14 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She will forever be in the hearts of her loved ones here on earth and celebrated in heaven.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Chickasha.
