Travis Lee Cummins
Memorial services for Travis Lee Cummins will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Epworth United Methodist Church, Chickasha.
Travis Lee Cummins, of Ninnekah, was born October 12, 1946, in Brownfield, Texas to Shirley Vern and Ina Jean (Teague) Cummins. He passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the age of 67 years.
Mr. Cummins was raised in Dumas, Texas and in 1965 graduated from Dumas High School. He was an Eagle Scout and received the “God & Country Award”. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1970 with a Bachelor Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree. He was a member of the “Saddle Tramps” and the ROTC at Texas Tech. Travis served in the U.S. Army from 1970 until 1973 achieving the rank of “First Lieutenant”.
Travis spent his engineering career at Natural Gas Pipeline Company and became a Registered Professional Engineer in 1977. He settled in Ninnekah-Chickasha area in 1992. He was a dedicated member of the Ninnekah Methodist Church where he served among many duties such as; trustee, lay leader, and lay delegate for United Methodist Annual Conference. He was a proud member of the Lion’s Club and was awarded with the lifetime “Melvin Jones Fellowship Award”. He was wholly committed as; Treasurer for the Gideon’s, a Trustee for the Rural Water District #7, and President of his Senior Citizen Center. He was a proud long-standing member of the Texas Tech Alumni Association. Travis was also very committed to many other community organizations over his lifetime.
Mr. Cummins was preceded in death by his father, Shirley Vern Cummins. He is survived by his mother Ina Jean (Teague) Cummins, of Dumas, Texas, a sister, Shirley Jean Cummins, of Wichita Falls, Texas, a brother, Ronald Allen Cummins and wife Barbara, of Mustang, ; nieces: Carissa Cummins and Fiancée, Dusty Russell, of Mustang, Jacinda Ricks and husband, Adam of Edmond, OK, Shaina Penland and husband, Mathew of Mustang. His beloved great nephews and nieces: Justin and Jaina Penland, Caedmon Ricks and Lilly Jean Cummins; dearest friend, Janet Fitzwater, her family, and MANY other cherished relatives and friends.
