A memorial service for Jimmy Harold Copeland will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at Grand Assembly of God, 102 E. Almar Dr., Chickasha with Rev. Larry Hatfield and Pastor Gary Rogers officiating.

Jim, a beloved husband, dad and “Papa” passed away Sept. 24, 2012 near his summer home at Emeryville, West Virginia.  He was born in Rush Springson Aug 24, 1949 to Etzell Copeland and Betty (Bennett) Copeland.  

He attended Rush Springs Elementary through the sixth grade before moving to Oklahoma City where he attended Western Heights and later Newcastle schools. Jim completed his education with a Bachelor Degree in sociology and a secondary in Criminal Justice from Louisiana Tech.

He was married to Cynthia Mooney on Aug. 26, 1966.  Three children were born to this union.  He was married to Lauren E. Simmons on Sept. 20, 1990.

Jim was a member of the US Air Force for 22 years and 22 days serving from Sept. 6, 1974 to Sept. 30, 1996. He served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm and was an Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He was awarded numerous medals for meritorious service and achievements.  

Jim was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Affairs, the American Legion (Department of Oklahoma) and the Mountain Top Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lauren of Emeryville, WV and Oklahoma City; parents: Betty Copeland Vansill and husband Jesse of Chickasha and Etzell Copeland and wife Zelda of Lone Grove; two daughters: Trelynda Rogers and husband Doug of Schertz, Texas, and Tricia Ratley and husband Mark of Shreveport, LA; one son: Jimmy Jr. “Chip” Copeland and wife Kaye of Oklahoma City; one sister, Vinita Cariveau of Chickasha; one brother, Ron Copeland and wife Flora of Lone Grove; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four nephews, a niece, many aunts, cousins and friends.

Jim will be interred at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
