Harold (Hal) Clark

— Harold (Hal) Clark was born September 12, 1928 in a little coal-mining town in Yukon, Pennsylvania.  He passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 84.

His grandmother who migrated here from Slovenia raised him along with his brother and sister.  He lost his 18 year old brother to spinal meningitis and lost many relatives in coal mining accidents.  Times were hard living in the 30’s and most people in Yukon worked either in the coal mine or at a steel mill close to his hometown.

In 1947 after graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Army Air Force, as it was called in those days.  He was sent to Texas for his basic training then on to weather school at tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma.  Upon completion of his basic training he was assigned to the 373 Weather Squadron and stationed in Bermuda.

After his discharge in 1950, Hal returned to Yukon and realized it had lost its luster so “Go West Young Man – Go West”.  He landed in Burbank, California on Wednesday and immediately applied at Lockhead Aircraft where he was hired and went to work the very next day.  He hired in as a Helper at 95 cents an hour then worked his way up to a Department Manager, overseeing 450 employees.  Upon his retirement 38 years later and being single, he was reading the morning paper and saw an ad for golf course homes in a community called California City.  He took a drive there, had lunch, liked what he saw.  He bought property and had a home built and moved in four months later.

Now the stars were really lining up for him.  Low and behold it was here a young lady (Marcy), originally from Alex, Oklahoma, came into his life.  They were soon married.  From that point on life was good.  Hal enjoyed being retired, playing golf every day, and had a wife that was gainfully employed with benefits.  What a life?  His friends are now referring to him as “a kept man”.

Through the years Hal and his wife had the opportunity to travel to many countries: Alaska, Mexico, Canada, England, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Gibraltar, Israel, Egypt, Puerto Rico, Columbia, Tangier, Jamaica, Morocco and China.

After 25 years at Edwards Air Force Base, Hal’s wife also retired.  They did not want to retire in California so Oklahoma seemed to be the most logical place, since there was family there.  The town of Chickasha was the decision.

Hal was passionate about his faith and his beloved First Lutheran Church and his church family where he had served as elder.  He never met a stranger and could converse with anyone on about any subject.

He is preceded in death by his parents and the grandmother that raised him, daughter Candice, one sister and two brothers.

Hal is survived by his wife, Marcy of the home; a son, Christopher Clark of Las Vegas, NV, a daughter, Stacie and husband, Will Baalbaky of Las Vegas, NV, Granddaughters: Sarah, Ashley and Nikole of Palmdale, CA, Grandsons: Caden Williamson, of Palmdale, CA, Evan, Ryan, Aden Baalbaky, of Las Vegas, NV, Nicholas Gordon of Las Vegas, NV.

Memorial services will be at the First Lutheran Church (9th and Minnesota) on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK.

In Lieu of flowers, the family ask you make donations to the tornado victims through the Salvation Army or the American Red Cross.
