Funeral service for Tom Story, 92, of Alex, Oklahoma will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Alex.
Tom Story was born December 12, 1920 in Alex, Oklahoma, the son of Elmer and Mamie (Maloney) Story. He died March 4, 2013 at his home in Alex, Oklahoma. Tom was a graduate of Alex High School. He started his farming career with 18 acres given to him by his father. He used the acreage to produce a broom corn crop, which provided the money needed to buy a cattle truck. That truck ultimately provided the money he needed to take his wife, Maxine Mackey. They were married November 23, 1940 in Chickasha. Two years later he came home from delivering a load of cattle to receive his draft papers and reported for duty the next day. He served in the 487th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. His military service took him to New Guinea and the Philippines. Tom was saved while serving in the U.S. Army. After returning home from World War II, he and his wife owned and operated Story Grocery until he later returned to farming. Tom also served his community with 20 years of service on the Alex School Board. He lived in the Alex Community his entire life.
