George Elvin Rodgers

— Funeral for former Cement resident George Elvin Rodgers, 86, Lawton will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in the Cement Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. John Zwolle, pastor officiating.

Mr. Rodgers died Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Lawton.

Burial with military honors will be in the Cement Cemetery under the direction of Becker-Rabon Cement Chapel.

He was born June 24, 1926 in Amarillo, Texas to Henry Columbus and Dora (Green) Rodgers.  He served in the US Navy in WW II from October 26, 1944 to April 1 1946.  He served in the Philippines with a Seabee Battalion.  He married Dorothy Mae Chaney on May 7, 1953 in Cement, Oklahoma.   She died April 12, 1986. He worked as a mechanic, farm hand and in the oilfield.  He loved camping, traveling and rodeos, and in 2012 he participated in the “Honor Flight” for US Veterans to visit the WW II Memorial in Washington D.C.      

He is survived by children: Paula Weedn and husband Larry, Cement, OK, Regina Muphy, Broken Arrow, Sister: Imogene Coulson and husband Ralph, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Joanie McDonald and husband Heath of Chickasha, Holly Bates and husband Jason of Tulsa, Valerie Franklin and husband Gary of Norman, Adam Murphy of Stillwater, and 9 great grandchildren, Haydn and Ava McDonald, Cheyenne,Jonathan and Chesney Bates, Dorothy, Charitie, Rheann Franklin and Adellynn Doyle. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, 6 Brothers: Henry David, Carol, Ralph, Glen, Charles and Billy, and a sister Marguerite Hutchins.
