A memorial services for Alfa B. Dutton Sasser will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012, at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond.  Alfa passed away May 3, 2012, in Edmond.

Alfa was born June 23, 1925, in Fletcher, to George W and Ruthie (Leonard) Dutton, and moved with her family to Chickasha in 1927.  She graduated from Chickasha High School in 1942, attended Oklahoma College for Women her freshman year, and then attended the University of Oklahoma where she received her BS in Accounting in 1947.  She married the Rev. C. W. Sasser, Jr., of Lawton, Oklahoma on December 20, 1946.  They lived in Lawton briefly before moving to Shawnee, Oklahoma, where she taught accounting at Oklahoma Baptist University, starting there at the age of 22.  She and C. W. returned to Lawton in 1952 where she taught school and then worked for a local accounting firm.  After receiving her CPA, she worked for several years for a tax attorney in Lawton before joining major accounting firms in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Alfa was one of the first women in the state of Oklahoma to pass the CPA exam, accomplishing that achievement in 1959.  That same year, she was named Woman of the Year by the Lawton Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association.  Alfa specialized in tax and estate planning, completing 59 tax seasons before retiring from the profession in 2011 for health reasons.  She was active in the Oklahoma Society of CPAs throughout her career and also involved in various business and civic organizations in Lawton, Tulsa and Oklahoma City.  

Alfa is survived by her son, Will (Peggy) Sasser of Lawton, and her daughter, Sue Lynn Sasser of Edmond; two grandchildren, Kim (Derrick) Bandelier of Austin, Texas and Amanda Sasser of Los Angeles, and two great grandchildren, Jaxon and Addison Bandelier; two sisters, Katherine Chapman of Lubbock, Texas and Ruetta (Les) Davidson of Norman, plus several nieces and nephews and their families. Alfa is preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, James and George, Jr., and her son-in-law, Chuck Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that funds be directed to the Showers of Blessing Foundation, a fund she started in her husband’s memory to provide scholarships for students at the University of Central Oklahoma seeking a career in Christian music, 15925 Traditions Blvd, Edmond, OK 73013, or to the Dr. Sue Lynn Sasser Economics Scholarship Fund at the University of Central Oklahoma Foundation, 100 N. University Drive, Edmond, OK  73034 or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Sterling House Santa Fe in Edmond and Choice Hospice for their loving care of Alfa during the last few months of her life.
