Paul E. Hale, 72, entered this life Dec. 24, 1939, and entered his eternal life March 19, 2012.

Paul was born the son of a country preacher to J.L. and Vera Hale of Amber. At the age of 10, Paul gave his heart to Jesus Christ.

Paul graduated from Amber High School in 1957.

In 1959, he married his hometown sweetheart, Barbara Jane Browning.

Paul made his living in the oilpatch, working for Noble Drilling and Hughes Tool. In 1974, Paul and Don Bodard founded Bodard & Hale Drilling based in Shawnee, and later Paul formed Bison Drilling.

Paul was a lifelong supporter and avid follower of OU sports. Paul was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed many fishing and hunting trips around the country creating lifetime memories with family and friends. He and Barbara, along with family and friends, enjoyed their love of travel for the better part of his life. Paul was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and was quick to tell a story or brag on them. In his retirement, he enjoyed rebuilding and restoring antique tractors.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Paul is survived by Barbara Hale, his wife of 52 years; son, Steve Hale and wife, Kaylynn; daughter, Sheri Rhodes and husband, Greg; grandchildren, Zac and Madison Grinnell, Tori Hale, and Reagan Rhodes; sister, Graci Donahoo; brothers, Harold and wife, Janette, Phillip and wife, Sylvia; a number of nieces and nephews.

Anyone who was fortunate enough to know Paul knows that the story of this great man’s life cannot be told on ink and paper and black and white; you had to see it in color.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Immanuel Baptist Building Fund Shawnee.

Funeral services were held at  1 p.m., Thursday, March 22, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Shawnee, with Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park.
