Nancy Ann Cook

— Nancy Ann Cook was born on July 18, 1939 in Anthony, Kansas to Max L. and Frances E. Cook.  She died peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Midwest City at the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 16 days.

In 1952, Nancy and her parents and three sisters moved to Waynoka, OK, and she was graduated from Waynoka High School in 1957.  She then enrolled at the Baptist School of Nursing in Enid, and became a Registered Nurse in 1960.  In that same year, she married Donald E. Rogers of May, OK.  Nancy and Don had three children:  Mark Allen Rogers, MD; Kimberly Donn Rogers Richardson, and Amy Shawn Rogers.

Nancy worked for Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha for many years as a recovery room nurse.  While living in Chickasha, she attended USAO and received her BA degree in Psychology.  She loved school, loved learning, and was interested in every subject.  After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she then attended Wichita State University and received a Master of Science in Nursing.  With this degree, she began a long career of teaching nursing students at Southern Nazarene University and then at Oklahoma City Community College.  Nancy was a brilliant teacher and loved being a college professor, often referring to herself well into retirement as “Professor Cook.”  Through her teaching, she changed the lives of many and was well recognized in the health care community.

Her children and grandchildren were the delight of her life.  She loved her family and friends and had an active social life.  

In 1980, Nancy began studying meditation and Eastern religions.  This became a major focus of her life and she was a member of the Christ Center in Oklahoma City for the remainder of her life.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Candace Cook Fife of Paola, KS and by her son Mark and her daughter Amy.  She is survived by her daughter Kim and husband Tim Richardson of Austin, TX; by her grandchildren Ryan Richardson of Oklahoma City and Rachel Richardson of Austin; by her sisters Cyndie Cook of Norman, OK, and Catharine Cook of Chickasha; by her nephews Raymond Prach and wife Hilary of Grass Valley, CA and Mike Bilynsky and his daughter Hunter of Lawrence, KS; by numerous other relatives and friends, and by her former husband Donald E. Rogers of Mustang, OK.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday May 18th at 6:00 pm at The Christ Center, 333 SW 29th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73109.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Nancy’s name to your favorite education or children’s charity.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 124 S. 6th Street, Chickasha, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha. Viewing will be July 14 and 15, 2014, at McRay Funeral Home from 8 am to 8 pm. Family will receive friends at Liz’s home on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
