— Kay Rone
Kay Rone of Lindsay joined her mother, Anna Mae and father, Augustus O’Neal in heaven on March 8, 2014. Born in Muskogee, on Jan. 6, 1954, she later moved to Oklahoma City, where she met the love of her life. Robert and Kay were married on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, during her senior spring break in 1971. They moved to Lindsay, in 1972.
Kay worked at Storm Fishing Lures, as a seamstress, a Tupperware Consultant and a homemaker. In 1996, she graduated from OKCCC. Obtaining her registered nursing license, she soon began working at Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha. They say, “An old nurse never dies, they just lose their patience”.
When my brother, Shawn, and I started to write out our mother’s obituary, we thought, “why wasn’t this already written…she always had to have the last word”. Everyone always says, “It wasn’t their time” when a person dies. It was not her time, so let’s hope her visit to you is a positive one. She always said she would come back to haunt us, so just remember Mom, you loved us with a love so unconditional that you taught us to love others. Please don’t keep the grandkids up at night working your graveyard shift. Be the ghost nurse who wakes up their patients every hour to check vitals. Be the ghost that smells of peanut butter cookies or peppermint candy. Be the ghost that turns the coffee pot on and off. Be the ghost that sews extra fabric onto Destiny, Alexis, Madison, Kayla and Bailey’s shorts when they are too short. Be the ghost that guides us to the winning slot machine at any given casino. Be the ghost that catches the fish when Camron and Gavin are fishing.
If this strikes you as odd; then, you didn’t know this wife, sister, aunt, mother, nana, nurse and friend as she will always be remembered as our butterfly angel. Welcome to heaven, Mom, where the wait staff will never put ice in your iced tea.
Kay is survived by her husband Robert Rone, a son, Shawn Rone and wife Mandy, a daughter, Amanda Cornelius and husband Brad, three brothers and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kay Rone are set for 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at B. G. Boydston Funeral Home Chapel, 308 S.W. 3rd Street in Lindsay. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay. Services are under the direction of B. G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay.
